Cement and Concrete
Cement is a finely ground powder. It is made by
crushing natural minerals like limestone, clay, and
gypsum into powder. Cement forms a highly hard Cement
material and binds the bricks very tightly when
combined with water and sand.
Concrete is a blend of sand, cement, and crushed
stone particles. Concrete hardens and becomes
strong as it sets. Floors, roofs, roads and footpaths
Concrete
are all made of concrete.
Did You
Know? Recycled plastic waste can be moulded into bricks or pavement blocks for use in the
construction of pedestrian walkways, roadsides, or even roads. As these blocks are
lightweight and strong, they provide an environmentally friendly alternative to standard
materials.
Building houses and the people who build them
We might have seen many buildings or houses under construction. Many people
are involved in this work like engineer, architect, contractor, mason, carpenter,
plumber and electrician.
Many people use different kinds of materials and
tools and work as a team to do their job.
An engineer who plans buildings and bridges is
focused on the building’s foundation. He draws up
how steel rods are arranged, how much concrete is
used etc.
