Plants in deserts
Deserts have dry and sandy soil. Water is scarce due to low rainfall, and it is
quite hot throughout the year.
Adaptations in plants that grow in the deserts
Plants have long roots that spreadout wide and
deep in the soil in search of water. They have
a thick and fleshy stem. A waxy layer coats the spines
stem to reduce water loss. arms
Leaves are reduced to spines to prevent water
stem
loss and to protect them from being eaten by
animals. In some desert plants, the stomata are
found deep into the leaves to reduce the loss of roots
water through stomata.
