Adaptations in plants that grow in marshy areas

          Since root tips do not get  air,  they  grow above the  soil and help  the  plant

          to breathe. These roots are called  breathing roots.  Breathing roots give

          extra  support  to  the  trees.  The  trees  that  grow  in marshy areas  are called

          mangroves. Examples – Rhizophora, Avicennia

          Plants that grow in water are called aquatic                        forests located in India?

          plants. They are of three types – Floating plants, Fixed plants and Submerged
          plants.


          Floating plants

          These plants are very light and small to medium in size. They float freely in ponds

          and lakes. The roots of these plants are

          free-floating and do not touch the soil.

          Examples– Duckweed, Water Hyacinth,

          Pistia etc.

                                                These plants are fixed under the mud at the bottom

                                                of  the  pond. The leaves, flowers  and fruits  grow

                                                above the surface of the water. These plants have
