Submerged plants

          These plants grow completely

          under water. They have flexible

          stems with thin and narrow

          leaves which helps them to

          move along the water currents.
                                                                   Hydrilla Vallisneria
          Examples – Hydrilla, Vallisneria etc.

          Unusual adaptations

          Insectivorous plants

Some plants make their own food, but they also eat

insects to meet their nutritional needs. These are known
                                                                                               Venus fly trap
as insectivorous or carnivorous plants. Most of these

plants grow in soil that has less nutrients. They get their
nutrition from the insects they eat.

Examples – Venus fly trap, Pitcher plant, Sundew etc.

            Think &
Answer Do insectivorous plants have chlorophyll in them?
How do they prepare their food?

          Fungi Pitcher plant

Fungi are not classified as plants as they do not have chlorophyll and cannot
prepare their food. They are found in moist areas and depend on other organisms

for their food. They grow on other plants and absorb their nutrients. They

also absorb nutrients from dead and rotting plants, animals, and stale food.
