Amazing The Baobab tree, often known as “The Tree of Life,” survives
Facts dry seasons by storing water in its vast trunk. Its trunk can
hold up to 10,00,000 litres of water. This tree is found in Baobab tree
Africa and Australia.
Let’s Recall
The natural environment or place where the plants survive is called their habitat.
The process by which a plant adjusts to live in its environment is called adaptation.
Based on their habitats in which they grow plants are divided into terrestrial
plants and aquatic plants.
Terrestrial plants grow in different habitats such as – hilly areas, plains, coastal
areas, deserts and marshy areas.
Trees on plains are divided into evergreen trees and deciduous trees based on the
pattern of shedding of their leaves.
Plants in coastal areas survive in heavy rainfall, salty water, strong winds, and
sandy soil with poor nutrients.
Plants in deserts have thick and fleshy stems with a waxy coating to prevent
water loss.
Plants in marshy areas have breathing roots that grow above the soil and help
them to breathe.
Aquatic plants can be floating, fixed or submerged.
Insectivorous plants grow in soil that has less nutrients and eat insects to meet
their nutritional requirement.
Fungi are not classified as plants as they do not have chlorophyll and cannot
prepare their food.
